Romance Readers Book Club: Regency Romance

Romance Readers Book Club: Regency Romance In-Person

We're trying something new here at the Farmington Public Library: instead of reading the same book and discussing it, we're going to be reading a book that has the same theme. For Romance Readers, it will be a subgenre/trope of the much larger Romance Genre. Popular romance subgenres include Regency Romance, Cowboy Romance, Paranormal Romance, Christian Romance, and Dark Romance. To learn more about the Romance genre and its subgenres, head on over to NoveList!

For this meeting, read a Regency Romance (or 2!) and come prepared to discuss how it fits within the Romance Genre! Per Novelist: Romance blooms in 19th-century England, ruled by the Prince Regent in place of his ill father, King George III. Dress, manners, and tumultuous events provide a thrilling backdrop for romance. While the Regency officially ended in 1820 with the death of King George III, many people include the reigns of Kings George IV and William IV as part of the "Regency Era", as not much changed until the reign of Queen Victoria.
