Romance Readers - Dark Romance

This group reads a book of their choice, based on the suggested theme/trope/subgenre. This allows our members to read what they enjoy, while also branching outside their comfort zone, just a little. For this meeting, read a Dark Romance (or 2!) and come prepared to discuss how it fits within the Romance Genre! Enter the tantalizing world of dark romance, where the only rules are passion and power. Where romance is taboo, and the only boundaries are the limits of your deepest fantasies (PRH). In other words, in these books, red flags are green flags!

Please make sure to read content/trigger warnings before reading.

According to the Romance Writers of America, there are two basic elements of every romance novel: a central love story and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending [RWA]. Beyond that, anything goes, from the setting to the tropes. Romance novels can be set in Victorian times, or modern times. They can be sweet, or extremely spicy.

Romance Readers - Graphic Novel

This group reads a book of their choice, based on the suggested theme/trope/subgenre. This allows our members to read what they enjoy, while also branching outside their comfort zone, just a little. For this meeting, read a Romance Novel in Graphic Novel format (or 2!) and come prepared to discuss how it fits within the Romance Genre!

A note about graphic novels, per Kyle DeGuzman, "A graphic novel is a format, not a genre. It refers to a long-form work of sequential art, often with complex narratives and developed characters. The term "graphic novel" is used to describe any book in a comic format that resembles a novel in length and narrative development. This can include fiction, non-fiction, history, fantasy, or anything in-between." [StudioBinder]
